WHAT IT IS

Walx was born in 2021 from the passion and experience of the instructors who introduced Nordic Walking to England over two decades ago and who, thanks to a careful analysis of English walkers, found that most of them, using the Nordic Walking technique, did not perform the push in the rear part of the movement.
From here was born the idea of an innovative and simpler approach that eliminates the characteristic rear push of Nordic Walking, focusing on an activity that involves the front part of the body equally effectively and promotes training less linked to the extremization of the technical gesture but more oriented to the perception of movement. All this was made possible thanks to the design of specially designed poles characterized by a particular 15° inclined knob (IMPULSE by FIZAN) and free from the use of the strap.
Walx is thus proposed as a simple discipline to learn and practice, ideal for those looking for an outdoor activity that combines fitness, psychophysical well-being and socialization.

FAQ
GENERAL ASPECTS
-
What is WALX and what is the difference between Nordic Walking and WALX
WALX is a physical exercise that is performed with the same general principles as Nordic Walking. The main difference is that by doing WALX you do not perform the element that characterizes the gesture of Nordic Walking SINW, that is, the load/push until the posterior alignment between the upper limb and the pole.
PSYCHO-PHYSICAL BENEFITS
-
What is the difference in physical work between Nordic Walking and WALX?
We can define both activities, which originate from walking and use a pair of poles, as "aerobic with extensive muscle engagement". Here we limit ourselves to considering Nordic Walking, performed correctly in compliance with SINW parameters, and we note a balanced work of the upper limbs in their oscillation, with muscular engagement of the anterior and posterior part of the shoulder, the trunk and the upper limb. With WALX the work of the posterior oscillatory phase is "missing" and consequently a complete involvement of some muscles that can still be stimulated thanks to the intensity of the load that can be applied to the ergonomic knob during the anterior part of the movement. As for the step, we note a greater amplitude during Nordic Walking and a greater frequency during WALX. Finally, the torso appears more erect during WALX. The physical benefits: muscular and postural and the physiological ones: cardio-circulatory and respiratory, for both activities will however be determined by the intensity and correctness of the gestures rather than by the choice of one activity or the other. Scientific studies, over time, will be able to provide precise answers by identifying specific areas of research.
-
But without a hand strap, does the hand swell in the WALX pole?
The hand, through the control and load work on the stick and the various exercises proposed during the WALX activity, receives useful stimulations to keep its circulation active.
TECHNICAL ELEMENTS
-
What is the 15° tilt of the pole for?
To maintain the anatomical position of the wrist in a neutral line with respect to the forearm and to favor the inclination of the pole to the ground for an immediate grip and loading possibility.
-
Why is the grip of the Walx stick offset 12° towards the inside?
To maintain the natural position of the hand during the swing of the upper limbs.
-
What is the correct height of the poles?
Height is determined by keeping the arm perpendicular to the ground and the forearm in line with the hand with the wrist remaining slightly lower than the elbow.
-
What is the difference between Nordic Walking and WALX?
Basically, some physical characteristics of the pole change, allowing for different movements: the grip changes, which in the case of WALX has two different ergonomic grips without handrails: one right and one left. Furthermore, in the lower part of the knob there is a “small wing” that allows the support of the inside of the palm of the hand, allowing for greater thrust. The WALX pole also has a 15° inclination with respect to the grip. This general setting favors a movement that develops in the front part of the body with the hands always in full control of the pole.
-
Why should a Nordic Walking walker start doing WALX?
WALX is simpler and can also be considered preparatory for Nordic Walking, in the same way, for its simplicity and for the method with which it is learned, WALX can be decidedly complementary and alternative to Nordic Walking. Only by trying it will you be able to perceive the different sensations and the simple freedom of movement.
-
Why might a WALX walker switch to Nordic Walking?
Because with Nordic Walking you can have an important technical-coordination evolution and the possibility of accessing the world of competitive sport.
-
Why should I start WALX?
WALX offers the possibility of doing a physical activity modulated on the needs of people who want to move outdoors, in a natural and not too technical way, stimulating the whole body to improve resistance, muscle tone and strength.
OPPORTUNITIES AND PHILOSOPHY
-
Nordic Walking is unfortunately considered an activity for old people and how is WALX considered?
The users who practice Nordic Walking are evidently adults due to the settings that have been given to this activity. Adults seek above all the great benefits that are received from Nordic Walking precisely because of its intrinsic characteristics. WALX, thanks to a simpler, more intuitive and TOTAL BODY fitness-oriented approach, will be aimed at a wider and younger audience without any limitations.
-
Might someone who does WALX not want to do Nordic Walking?
It is important to consider how important it is for people to move and do physical activity for their well-being. Freedom of choice is a great opportunity and it is right that everyone chooses what they like and consider good for their needs.
-
What do you think of WALX?
I think it is a great opportunity to do fitness activities in an intuitive, fun and engaging way; it also offers different possibilities of exercises combined with walking to work with the involvement of the whole body.
